The Brazilian synchronized swimming team was pre-selected for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games with two athletes from Flamengo. Among the nine selected, the maximum number allowed by the International Olympic Committee for the event, are Flamengo's Lorena Molinos and Maria Clara Lobo. This number already includes the Olympic duo and the team's reserve, which consists of eight swimmers. The final list will only be released by the deadline in July.

The list of pre-selected athletes came out after the excellent performance in the Absolute South American Championship in Asunción, Paraguay, which ended last Saturday (19). On that occasion, the Brazilians won all five gold medals in dispute, including in the debut mixed duet event.

The synchronized swimming teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo receive funding from their sponsors – Banco Bonsucesso, Furnas, Estácio, LafargeHolcim/Cimento Mauá, and EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR). The renovation of the Gávea Olympic pool is supported by investments from Lafarge and Ambev via the State Sports Incentive Law/State Secretariat of Sports, Leisure and Youth (ICMS), in addition to funds from the Agnelo Piva Law/Brazilian Confederation of Clubs (CBC).
