Every year, Flamengo's artistic swimming team is the largest supplier of athletes to the Brazilian National Team. In 2020, despite the National Selection being held in a different format, with performances recorded and judged virtually, the result was the same. Fourteen Flamengo players shone and qualified to represent Brazil in international competitions in 2021. In the Senior Women's category, Flamengo dominated, with the top five finishes going to Mais Querido, while Mengão also took first and second place in both the Junior and Juvenile divisions.

In order, Maria Clara Lobo, Gabriela Regly, Jullia Catharino, Vitoria Casale, Jaddy Milla, and Luzia Galvez will be part of the country's main team, joining Laura Miccuci, already qualified for the Olympic duet, who is aiming for a spot at the Tokyo 2021 Games. Jullia, Jaddy, and Luzia will also be part of the Junior category group, as will Manuela Menezes and Maria Luiza Fonseca. In the Youth category, Ana Clara Almeida, Giovana Faria, and Beatriz Amorim will represent Mais Querido, while Bernardo Santos and João Victor Bouças, in the men's category, will be part of the Senior and Junior groups, respectively.

Bernardo is now one of the country's top athletes in a sport dominated by women, where the men's division is beginning to develop and gain ground. With dreams of competing in the World Championship, the red-and-black spoke about the challenges he faced throughout the season and celebrated his call-up.

"Gratitude, strength, and determination were the words that motivated me amidst so many challenges this year. It was incredibly rewarding, after returning to training, to have achieved such good results in such a short time and the honor of being called up to the Brazilian national team for another consecutive year. I know that without the help and support of the club's coaching staff by my side, none of this would have been possible, so I thank them all and myself for having the strength and determination to believe that everything would work out. It was tough, but in the end, it worked out," said the athlete.

For Gabi Regly, who has defended the country since 2013, when she was just 13 years old, the result demonstrates the excellent work carried out even in the face of the uncertainties generated by the pandemic scenario faced since March.

"I'm thrilled to be called up to the Brazilian National Team again. It hasn't been an easy year, but we overcame all the difficulties, and the results are in. Flamengo overall did very well in the competition, well represented in all categories! It's always very rewarding for us to be able to represent our country around the world; I'm very happy," said the swimmer.

Last week, Mengão athletes also shone in the CBDA's Virtual Brazilian Category Championship. FlaNado won seven medals in total: three gold, three silver, and one bronze.
