Flamengo's synchronized swimming team will compete this week in the Brazilian Absolute Championship at the Julio Delamare Aquatic Park, Maracanã sports complex. The competition begins this Friday (October 12.10) and runs until Sunday (October 14.10), with more than 50 athletes from seven participating clubs in attendance. The Rubro-Negro team was the 2011 champion and is seeking its fifth consecutive title in the competition.

The team from Gávea will have 18 athletes in search of another title: Giovana Stephan, Lorena Molinos, Jessica Noutel, Aline Vieira, Daniella Figueiredo, Gabriella Figueiredo, Maria Eduarda Cavalcante, Camila Ururahy, Maria Eduarda Pereira, Marcela Pereira, Michele Frota, Giovana Bueno, Maria Clara Lobo, Beatriz Regly, Luisa Pinto, Larissa Cerrutti, Julia Campos and Ayllen Rossi.

The team's coach, Roberta Perillier, praises the high level of competition and states that the team trained hard for the challenge.

"This is a very strong championship in which all the teams are preparing very well to compete. We're going after our fifth consecutive title and I hope to bring this achievement back to Gávea," he declared.

In addition to the Gávea team, the participants who will compete for the championship title are Tijuca Tennis Club, Paineiras do Morumby, Fluminense, Technological University of Paraná, Military Circle of São Paulo and BNB Fortaleza.

There will be solo, duet, and team events, both technical and free routines. And also the combined free routine, known as a combo. Unlike the Pan American and Olympic Games, the routines are not added together to score the athletes. In other words, each event has its own podium: free solo (gold, silver, and bronze), technical solo (same), and so on, as is the case at the FINA World Championships.
