The red-and-black artistic swimming team makes its debut at the World Aquatics Championships this Friday
Four athletes from Mais Querido will represent Brazil in Budapest
By Roberta Pinto - inBrazilian artistic swimming debuts this Friday (17) at the World Aquatics Championships, which are being held in Budapest, Hungary. Flamengo will have four representatives in the competition: Laura Miccuci, Jullia Catharino, Gabi Regly and Vitoria Casale. The qualifying phase runs until Sunday with the finals starting on Monday (20).
Brazil's women's duo in Budapest is made up of two Flamengo athletes—Laura Miccuci and Jullia Catharino. This will be their second senior World Championships, and they both believe they can reach the finals.
"We're very excited. It's the beginning of an Olympic cycle and our first competition of the year. It's very rewarding to represent Brazil and Flamengo. The World Cup is a huge competition and an excellent opportunity to assess our level against the other teams. Our initial goal is to qualify for the finals," said Laura.
"This is our second adult world championship and my debut in the duet event. It's a great pleasure to swim with someone we like and have a connection with. Laura and I will do our best to achieve a spot in the final. I'm sure it will be very special for me and my career. Furthermore, this World Championship is even more special because we form a red-and-black duo within the national team," added Jullinha.
In addition to the duet, they will also swim alongside Vitoria Casale and Gabi Regly in the team, combo, and highlight events. Gabi Regly, however, will still swim the mixed duet and is hoping the event becomes part of the 2024 Olympic Games.
"It's a great joy to participate in the mixed duet. We really want it to be included in the Paris Olympic Games," said Gabi, talking a little about her routine in recent months.
"There are so many different events and choreographies. We train about eight hours a day, with full dedication. But it's a huge honor for all of us to have practically half of the team made up of Flamengo athletes. It's so much more enjoyable to swim alongside them. We have so many stories, and we want to build even more beautiful ones," she concluded.
