Red-and-black swimmers perform a performance for public school students
Flamengo athletes participate in a solidarity action with schools that won the school challenge

Flamengo's senior synchronized swimming team performed at the Maria Lenk Aquatic Center on Wednesday morning (October 08.10) for a different audience. Instead of judges and fans, the audience consisted of children who won the "School Solidarity" challenge. The competition consisted of developing a charity event and producing a video to post on YouTube: the three with the most views would win the competition. The Municipal Schools of Doutor Sócrates (Pedra de Guaratiba), Anísio Teixeira (Ilha do Governador), and Félix Mielli Venerando (Caju) were the champions.
"It's great to be able to brighten the morning of dozens of children who participated in this competition and spend the day learning a little more about Olympic sports, especially now that we're getting closer and closer to the Rio 2016 Games," said Camila Ururahy, one of the athletes on the red-and-black team. Transforma, the Rio 2016 education program, launched in April of this year and works in partnership with schools to promote activities that allow students to experience Olympic and Paralympic values in practice.
Coach Roberta Perillier also shared her experience. "It was entirely geared toward public school students, and everyone was thrilled. We had a dynamic activity with 15 girls on dry land, demonstrating synchronized swimming above water. We also did three exhibitions: the combined free routine with 10 athletes, the senior technical duet, and the senior free solo. Afterwards, we were all invited to lunch with the children, and our athletes were able to share a little about their daily training routines, show off the medals they've won over the years of competition, and share moments of overcoming challenges," said Beta.
