Red-and-blacks win medals at the Pan-American Artistic Swimming Championships
In total, the Brazilian team reached the podium seven times in the competition
By Romulo Paranhos - inThe Brazilian Artistic Swimming Team, which competed in the Pan American Championships last week, shone in the pools of Riverside, California, in the United States. With eight athletes from Mais Querido in the group, Brazil won three gold medals with the Junior Free Duet, Technical Mixed Duet and Free Mixed Duet, three silver medals with the Junior Technical Duet, Technical Senior Team and Free Combination, in addition to a bronze medal in the Senior Free Team event in the competition, which ended last Saturday (11).
The Brazilian Mixed Duet, formed by the red-and-blacks Giovana Stephan and Renan Alcântara, debuted a choreography inspired by the rhythm of the tango. The duo used the competition to assess their preparations for the 2019 South American and World Championships. As the only duo to compete, the duo won the gold medal and received very positive reviews from the judges.
Laura Miccuci, a red-and-black team member with Ana Giulia Veloso, won silver in the Junior Free Duet and Free Team competitions, as well as gold in the Technical Routine. The Mais Querido athlete spoke about what it was like to represent Brazil in the competition.
“It was an excellent experience to participate in a competition of this level, especially since it was the last time I represented Brazil in the Junior category and the first time in the Senior category,” said Laura.
Lorena Molinos, Gabriela Regly, Maria Clara Lobo, Maria Eduarda Miccuci, and Jullia Catharino also represented Flamengo in the Pan American Artistic Swimming Championships and won medals, in addition to coach Roberta Perillier.
The country's campaign was one of the best in history, and according to CBDA Artistic Swimming Technical Supervisor Mônica Rosas, the competition served as a stepping stone for the Brazilian team to once again be among the finalists at the world championships. The next commitment for the red-and-black athletes with the Brazilian National Team will be the South American Aquatics Championships, which will take place at the end of October in Trujillo, Peru.
The artistic swimming teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – Banco Bonsucesso, Furnas, Estácio, LafargeHolcim/Cimento Mauá, EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), in addition to support from the Brazilian Confederation of Clubs (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law.
