Rubro-Negros are ready for the South American Artistic Swimming Championships

The next challenge for the red-and-black artistic swimming athletes is international. The South American Absolute Championship will be held in Lima, Peru, from October 31st to November 4th. Nine athletes from the "Mais Querido" team are part of the Brazilian team competing in the competition, seeking the continental title and a spot at the 2019 Pan American Games.

In total, 13 athletes were called up to be part of the Brazilian team. Giovana Stephan, Maria Clara Lobo, Lorena Molinos, Maria Eduarda Miccuci, Laura Miccuci, Gabriela Regly, Júllia Catharino, Jaddy Portela, and Renan Alcântara are the red-and-black representatives, along with coach Roberta Perillier.

Flamengo's standout and one of Brazil's medal hopes, Maria Clara Lobo will be the Brazilian athlete who will compete in the most events at the South American Championships: technical and free solos, technical and free duets, technical and free teams, and combined free routine.

An Olympic athlete at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, Maria Clara believes the team is ready to achieve good results.

"The Pan American Games are the most important competition for us right now, and to get there, we need to get a good result in the South American Championship. We're the favorites, and even after a year without competing, we want to keep that up. We're eager to show that we're back at full strength," said the red-and-black team.

After the international competition, the Mais Querido team begins preparations for the State Artistic Swimming Championship, which takes place between November 22nd and 25th.

The artistic swimming teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – Banco Bonsucesso, Furnas, Estácio, LafargeHolcim/Cimento Mauá, EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), in addition to support from the Brazilian Confederation of Clubs (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law.
