Even under a caustic sun, coach Roberta Perillier never missed a chance to stop the music and get her athletes' attention. It was four in the afternoon, during one of the Brazilian synchronized swimming team's training sessions, to the sound of "Rio" by Barry White.

Perillier is Flamengo's head coach, but with the national team she serves as assistant to Maura Lucia Xavier, who is her assistant at Gávea. Flamengo's involvement doesn't stop there. Of the 12 players called up, seven are from the club: Giovana Stephan, Lorena Molinos, Maria Eduarda Pereira, Michelle Frota, Joseane Martins Costa, and twins Daniella and Gabriella Figueiredo.

The goal is to prepare for the season's main competitions. In March, the girls travel to Medellin, Colombia, where they will participate in the South American Games. In June, their destination is Italy, home of the Roma Synchro. And the most important competition will be in September, the Copa Fina, in China.

Although the performance is scheduled for March, time is short, says Roberta Perillier. "We're in a rush because we're rehearsing a new choreography for our free ensemble," she explains to the official website team.
\
The choreography was prepared by Russian coach Tatiana Petrovskaya, a three-time Olympic champion and five-time world champion. Petrovskaya will be at Maria Lenk Aquatic Park this Friday morning, where she will lead a rehearsal of the choreography with the girls from Brazil.
