The FlaNatação team is ready to face one of the main challenges of the season. Starting this Tuesday (28), Mais Querido will compete for the José Finkel Trophy 2025, the Brazilian Absolute Swimming Championship, which will be held at Clube Paineiras do Morumby, in São Paulo (SP), until November 1st.
The competition, organized by the Brazilian Aquatic Sports Confederation (CBDA) in partnership with the Brazilian Club Committee (CBC), will bring together 399 athletes from teams across the country in individual and relay events. The José Finkel will be held in a long pool (50m), unlike the last edition, which was held in a short pool. The qualifiers will be held every day at 9 am, and the finals will start at 18 pm, always with free live broadcast on the Swim Channel YouTube channel.
With a squad of 14 athletes, Flamengo will be represented by Stephan Steverink, Gabi Assis, Joice Otero, Pedro Buch, Guilherme Escudero, Guilherme Kanzler, Lucca Tonin, Betina Braga, Pedro Medrado, Manu Astori, Giuliana Cosenza, Isaac Dias, Artur Mello, and Miguel Cordeiro. The delegation also includes head coach Carlos Matheus, coaches Danilo Siqueira and Paolo Veiga, physical therapist Monique Monteiro, and massage therapist Antônio Carlos da Silva.
Head coach Carlos Matheus highlighted the strategy adopted by the club for the competition:
"Flamengo is going to Finkel with a young and highly qualified delegation. We chose to take a more select group, made up of athletes with the greatest potential to score points and represent the club well in a top-tier competition. It's an excellent opportunity for these swimmers to advance, allowing them to gain more prominence on the national stage. Meanwhile, we have a strong team that continues training in Gávea, focused on the Brazilian Championships at the end of the year," he explained.
In 2024, Flamengo played a key role in the tournament, winning nine medals: five gold, two silver, and two bronze. Highlights included Gabi Assis, overall champion and runner-up, and Stephan Steverink, champion in his specialty, the 400m Medley. Now, Flamengo returns to the water seeking to maintain the strong results achieved in the pool in recent years.
