A muse of Rio de Janeiro swimming and considered one of the great hopes for a podium finish at the Rio-2007 Pan American Games, Mariana Brochado did not perform well in the final of the 200m freestyle event at the Maria Lenk Trophy – Correios Swimming Cup. With a time of 2:04, the red-and-black finished in 96th place, on the morning of this Thursday (6/3).

The competition is being held at the Julio de Lamare Aquatic Park, in Maracanã, and features the participation of the main stars in national swimming.

Today, Thursday, Mariana will compete in the 400m freestyle event, in which she was already pre-qualified.

"Nothing is set in stone yet. Mariana has to swim even better than what secured her this pre-qualification. She swam very poorly in the 200m freestyle, but expectations for today's qualifying round are high," said Marco Lamah, Mariana Brochado's coach.

The third stage qualifiers will begin at 3 p.m. today. The finals will begin this Friday (May 17th) at 4:05 a.m.
