A bitter debut for the Brazilian women's junior water polo team at the 7th World Water Polo Championships. The Brazilians suffered a 16-3 defeat to the Canadian national team in the first match of the competition, which is being held in Porto, Portugal.

The second match between the Brazilians, led by coach Frank Almora Diaz and assistant coach Antonio Canetti (Flamengo), was this Tuesday (24/07). The Brazilian team faced the strong Italians and, despite some good plays, ended up losing 13-9. Highlight for the red-black Carolina Mello, who left her mark in both matches, with one goal in each.

Cecília Canetti, who was part of the Brazilian team for the Rio-2007 Pan American Games, joined the rest of the group and showed her worth in her debut, scoring two beautiful goals against the Italian team.

This Wednesday, Brazil will face New Zealand. The match, the final match of the preliminary round, is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. (local time).

The 7th Junior World Women's Water Polo Championships will be held between July 23rd and 29th.
