The weekend was a great one for Flamengo's water polo. Playing at home at the Fadel Fadel Aquatic Park in Gávea, Flamengo showed its strength in the pools. In total, there were four matches—two in the women's and two in the men's—with Flamengo winning three of them in front of its home fans.
The round marked the men's team's debut in the competition, while the women's team made their second appearance. On Saturday (5), the girls were the first to hit the water and secured a secure victory over ABDA, 9-6. Then, it was the men's team's turn to start their journey on the right foot, beating the Bauruense team 14-10.
On Sunday (6), the women's team faced Sesi, in a very balanced duel that ended with an 8-7 victory for the visitors. Despite fighting until the end, the red-blacks suffered their first defeat in the competition. Closing the round, the men's team starred in one of the most exciting games of the season: an 11-11 draw against Pinheiros in regular time and a 5-4 victory on penalties, guaranteeing the team's second consecutive victory in the competition.
It's worth remembering that in the first round of the women's competition, held at Clube Paineiras in Morumbi, Flamengo had already defeated Pinheiros 10-9, making it two wins in three games. Now, both teams are preparing for the next stage of the National League, which will be played on May 9th and 10th at Sesi Leopoldina in São Paulo.
