The country's top water polo athletes will be in action from this Thursday (5/6) until Sunday, 8/6, at the Júlio De Lamare Aquatic Park, located in the Maracanã sports complex, to compete in two competitions.
The women's competition is the Troféu Brasil, which did not take place last year and saw Pinheiros win their third championship in its last edition, held in 2006. The men's competition is the Taça Brasil, won the last two years by Fluminense.
The women's Brazil Trophy will feature Flamengo, Pinheiros, and Paineiras do Morumby. The men's Brazil Cup will feature eight clubs, divided into two groups: A: Fluminense, Paulistano, Tijuca, and Paineiras; and B: Pinheiros, Botafogo, Flamengo, and Guanabara.
The two championships will bring together stars who competed in the Rio 2007 Pan American Games, where the men's team won the silver medal and the women's team, which featured the tenacity of the Canetti sisters (photo), finished in fourth place.\ \ In the women's team, Pinheiros has Flavia Fernandes, Camila Pedrosa, Marina Zablith, the twins Tess and Amanda Oliveira, Melina Teno and Fernanda Lissoni, among others; Flamengo has the Canetti sisters (Marina, Cecília and Manuela), Carol Melo, Ilana Pinheiro and Luiza Jordy; and Paineiras has their namesakes Gabriela Leme and Gabriela Mantellato, Sabine Beeler and Flavia Vigna.\
