Celebration day! Early champion, FlaRemo lifts the State Rowing Championship trophy

The Founding Sport of the Most Beloved had a flawless end to the year! This Sunday morning, our Flamengo stars jumped into the water of Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon to confirm what we all already knew: They're state champions!
The sixth and final regatta of the Rio de Janeiro championship was a mere formality, as Flamengo had been crowned champions in early October, opening up a more than 200-point lead over second-place Botafogo with a regatta to spare. Even so, the representatives of Macaquinho Sagrado competed until the end to bring home 15 more medals in 13 events: four gold, seven silver, and four bronze.
With this result, Flamengo completes a dominant streak. Last month, the team won the Brazilian championship, winning 31 of the 53 races, and the state championship with a race to spare, well ahead of its rivals.
Ruben Scarpati, Head Coach of FlaRemo, spoke about the red-blacks' achievements.
"It's a lot of work. Nothing here is a coincidence. I've logged 1600 hours on the boat (training), practically four hours a day. That's what gives me the foundation to win the state championship the way I did, with a 200-point lead—to win the Brazilian championship by winning 31 races out of 53. It's a joy to have achieved what we envisioned and dreamed of. Now it's time to celebrate, put our feet back on the ground, and start thinking about how to improve for next year," concluded Ruben.
