The 1st Regatta of the 2008 State Rowing Championship began in an atmosphere of rivalry between the two largest rowing clubs in Rio de Janeiro. Flamengo and Vasco staged a true duel in the waters of Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, this Sunday (6/4).

With a difference of 17 points in the Championship and ten in the Regatta, Vasco da Gama came out on top and won the title of the 1st Regatta of 2008.

CRFlamengo won four events (Women's Lightweight Four Skiff; Masters Four Skiff; Junior Single Skiff A and Junior Four Skiff B), totaling 63 points for the Championship and 77 points for the Regatta.

Once again, the rowers from the Rowing at School Project made a difference. In the third race of the day, the Women's Four Skiff - Beginners, about ten rowers (seven for the red-and-black team, two for Botafogo, and one for Vasco da Gama) set off from the CRFlamengo Nautical Headquarters.

The 2nd Regatta of the 2008 State Rowing Championship will be on April 27th, starting at 9am, at Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas.
