Flamengo's Isaquias Queiroz shone once again in international waters. This weekend, the Flamengo canoeist won the gold medal in the C1 500m event during the Szeged, Hungary, leg of the Canoe World Cup. With a time of 1:47.80, the Olympic champion returned to the top step of the podium in his specialty and reinforced his strong start to his Olympic cycle.

"I won the gold medal in the C1 500m, and I couldn't miss out on this victory. I can't leave a championship empty-handed (laughs). I'm very happy with this medal; it was a very close race," commented Isaquias, who also competed in the C2 500m, a new addition to the Olympic calendar for the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

In the pair's debut, as the "C2" indicates, he was joined by Gabriel Nascimento, also a Flamengo athlete. Together, they reached the main final and finished sixth, a positive result for the pair's first experience at the distance. Gabriel also competed in the C4 500m, alongside three other Brazilians, and finished fifth.

"We also reached the C2 500m final. Gabriel and I finished sixth in our first competition together. We had some difficulties, but we managed to finish well, which was very important. I want to thank the entire Red-Black Nation for their support and affection. We will continue training hard to represent them even better at the World Championships," he added.

The World Cup stage in Szeged also served as preparation for the Canoe World Championships, which will be held in August.
