Brazil guaranteed the presence of four boats for the Beijing 2008 Games, during the Pre-Olympic finals – Latin American Zone, held on Sunday, in Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas.

The boat formed by the red-and-black duo Thiago Gomes and Thiago Almeida secured second place in the Men's Lightweight Double Sculls event. The Cuban crew, the Pan American champions, came in first, and the Uruguayan team came in third.

The duo formed by Thiagos led the race until the final 150 meters, but were eventually surprised by the Cubans' overtaking. Even so, the red-and-blacks' presence at the 2008 Beijing Olympics is guaranteed.
