Sesc RJ Flamengo faces another tough challenge in the Women's Superliga. Coach Bernardinho's team faces second-place Dentil Praia Clube this Tuesday (March 18.03) at 18 p.m. in Uberlândia, Minas Gerais, in their penultimate match of the qualifying round. The goal, besides earning points to climb the table, is to build confidence for the playoffs. SporTV2 will broadcast live.
In sixth place, tied with 39 points as fifth-place Sesi Bauru, Sesc RJ Flamengo has had a few days of intense preparation. With no time to lament the 3-1 loss to leaders Gerdau Minas in the last round, the Flamengo squad has caught up on their studies and is going all out to counter the Uberlândia team's attacking prowess.
"We're ready for another great match. Praia is coming off a tough streak, but they have a qualified squad with diverse options. We need, first and foremost, to serve well. In the first round, we had chances, but we couldn't capitalize on them at home. We've studied the points we need to pay attention to thoroughly and, above all, we want to leave with the certainty that we did our best," said outside hitter and captain Michelle, who returned to the court in the last match after treating an inflammation in her left foot.
"Little by little, I'm getting back to my best playing condition and I hope to contribute to the team at the most important moment of the championship," Michelle added.
Sesc RJ Flamengo continues to stand out in the Superliga statistics. Setter Brie leads the way in serving numbers, with 21 aces. Middle blocker Lorena is the second-best blocker, with 72 points, and the fifth-most efficient in attack (45,80%). Libero Laís tops the list of best passers (67,76% efficiency), with captain Michelle in sixth (63,84%). Edinara is the sixth-highest scorer in the competition, with 300 hits.
Sesc RJ Flamengo reached the top of the podium in the Women's Superliga in the 1997/1998 and 1999/2000 seasons (both in Curitiba), 2005/2006, 2006/2007, 2007/2008, 2008/2009, 2010/2011, 2012/2013, 2013/2014, 2014/2015, 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 (in Rio de Janeiro).
The 2024/2025 Superliga brings together 12 teams, which face each other in a home and away match, and the top eight advance to the playoffs.
