Sesc RJ Flamengo will seek recovery in the Women's Superliga in a tough mission for the lead. This Friday (March 06.03th), coach Bernardinho's team faces Gerdau Minas at 21:30 PM at Arena UniBH, in Belo Horizonte, in a match of the eighth round of the second half of the Women's Superliga. Currently second in the standings with 46 points, one less than their Minas Gerais rivals, Flamengo had a productive week of training and made significant progress in recovering from injuries within the squad, including those of outside hitter Simone Lee and libero Laís. Despite being eliminated in the Copa Brasil semifinals last week, the team remains focused on its bigger goals.
"We have many positive aspects to highlight. The recent defeats hurt, but they don't erase the good things we've already done. We know where we need to improve and we're going to get the team back on track to arrive well-prepared for the most important moment of the Superliga. We have a very tough mission against Gerdau Minas. We've studied their team extensively and we're going to trust in our work," said opposite hitter Tainara.
Sesc RJ Flamengo has standout individual players in the Superliga statistics. Outside hitter Simone Lee is the competition's top scorer with 349 points, while opposite hitter Tainara is ninth with 249. The American is also the second-highest scorer in serves, with 22 aces. Sesc RJ Flamengo reached the top of the podium in the national competition in the 1997/1998 and 1999/2000 seasons (both in Curitiba), 2005/2006, 2006/2007, 2007/2008, 2008/2009, 2010/2011, 2012/2013, 2013/2014, 2014/2015, 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 (in Rio de Janeiro).
