With great determination and synergy from its pair of outside hitters, Sesc RJ Flamengo seeks to maintain its lead and unbeaten record in the Women's Superliga. This Friday (December 12.12th), at 21:30 PM, coach Bernardinho's team faces bottom-ranked Renasce Sorocaba at the Tijuca Tennis Club, with live broadcast on SporTV2 and VBTV, and relies on the partnership between Simone Lee and Karina. Tickets are on sale at the Guichê Web website.
In her first year in Brazilian volleyball, American Simone Lee steals the show every round with her powerful attacks. She is the third highest scorer in the Superliga, with 177 points. Besides winning over the Flamengo fans, the player is the target of many compliments from Karina.
"My interaction with Simone has been very good, and mind you, I don't even speak English very well (laughs). We've connected so well and trust each other. I think that's been essential for my growth. We're progressing day by day. We have a lot to improve. We've faced one challenge after another, with travel. It's difficult, physically and mentally, but the group deserves praise for their work," said Karina.
Simone Lee smiles as she talks about switching positions with her teammate, who stands out as the sixth-best passer in the Superliga, with a 62,1% success rate.
"I love this girl. She's amazing. It's so wonderful to play with Karina. She's a rare person, capable of making you feel so comfortable around her. Her energy is incredible and she's always willing to give her all for the group. By her side, I feel I can do my job much more easily. There's a lot of pressure on me, but she and the other girls are helping me all the time," says Simone Lee.
Sesc RJ Flamengo reached the top of the podium in the national competition in the 1997/1998 and 1999/2000 seasons (both in Curitiba), 2005/2006, 2006/2007, 2007/2008, 2008/2009, 2010/2011, 2012/2013, 2013/2014, 2014/2015, 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 (in Rio de Janeiro).
The 2025/2026 Superliga features 12 teams, which will face each other in a home-and-away format. The quarterfinals will feature the top eight teams from the qualifying phase in a best-of-three playoff. The semifinals will also be best-of-three, while the final will be a single-game series.
