Sesc RJ Flamengo said goodbye to its fans in 2024 in the way the Red-Black Nation likes. This Friday (13.12), coach Bernardinho's team beat Abel Moda Vôlei 3 sets to 0, with partial scores of 25/21, 25/16 and 25/14, at Tijuca Tênis Clube, in a match of the eighth round of the Women's Superliga, and jumped to fourth place in the standings.
With 20 points, the Rio de Janeiro team caught up with Osasco São Cristóvão Saúde, which is in third place, and gained confidence to continue competing for the top spots. The result was also important for Bernardinho to rotate the squad, thinking about the long run, which includes both the Superliga and the Copa Brasil.
Without outside hitter Helena, who is recovering from discomfort in her right thigh, the coach once again counted on Karina among the starters, and the athlete proved she was ready to be called upon. She was the match's top scorer with 19 points, and took home the VivaVôlei Trophy for best on court.
"We have to always be aware of every situation. Helena is a great outside hitter and we help each other a lot, we cheer each other on, and that's very important. If one of us isn't doing well, the other will do something for their teammate, go out and try to do something extra. I think that's our essence and that's what I looked for in this match. I'm rooting for her to come back as soon as possible, because she's really missed," said Karina, pleased with the group's improvement in the match.
"Our training has been very good. In the first set, we gradually gained consistency, which has been our goal. From the second set onward, we were able to demonstrate this better. We improved throughout the match, but we know we still have a lot more room for improvement," concluded the outside hitter.
Sesc RJ Flamengo's last match in 2024 will take place on December 22, against Batavo Mackenzie, in Belo Horizonte.
