Sesc RJ Flamengo secured their place in the Superliga Feminina semifinals on a special night. This Friday (April 03.04rd), coach Bernardinho's team, fueled by the energy of 4.041 spectators at Maracanãzinho – a record crowd for Flamengo this season – defeated Batavo Mackenzie in straight sets, with scores of 25-21, 27-25, and 25-23. With this result, the Rio de Janeiro team closed out the quarterfinal series 2-0 and now awaits either Dentil Praia Clube or Sesi Bauru in the next round.
The crowd's support was crucial for Sesc RJ Flamengo to overcome some difficulties in the match. In the second set, the home team was winning 18-10, but allowed Batavo Mackenzie to grow stronger, even tying the score at 23-23. In the end, the fans rallied alongside Simone Lee and her teammates to secure a narrow victory. In the final set, also marked by balance, Flamengo knew how to assert themselves in the decisive moments.
"It's wonderful to feel the strength of our fans in a packed Maracanãzinho like this. They push us on the court and are our seventh player. They made all the difference. We had a tough series, but we imposed our rhythm. It was super important to start away from home and decide the qualification here. Now it's time to rest quickly and come back with everything. We will work and study hard whoever comes next, because the semifinals are tough regardless of the opponent. We will have to focus even more and work even harder to achieve what we want," said setter Giovana.
Simone Lee led the offensive actions for Sesc RJ Flamengo and was the game's top scorer with 22 points. The American outside hitter also won the VivaVôlei Trophy for best player on the court. Opposite hitter Tainara followed with 16 points.
