One day after beating Fluminense 4-1 and taking the lead in the Brazilian ChampionshipFlamengo's Under-20 team returned to the field, this time with an alternative team led by coach Marcio Torres, to face Portuguesa, at Gávea, in a match valid for the fourth round of the Taça Rio. With goals from Lucas Gabriel, Marx Lenin and Gabriel Pierini, the Garotos do Ninho won 3-0 and reached nine points, tying for the lead in Group A with Resende, who will face Nova Iguaçu tomorrow. The Mais Querido goes up the mountain towards Volta Redonda this Wednesday, and on Thursday (18) faces Internacional, at 15 pm, for the fifth round of the Brazilian Championship of the category. 

The first half was uneventful with few scoring opportunities. The two most dangerous chances for Flamengo's youth team came shortly before halftime. In the 36th minute, Marx Lenin attempted a shot from outside the box that went over the crossbar of Portuguesa's goal. In the 39th minute, Flamengo opened the scoring. After a corner kick into the box, the defense tried to clear, but Lucas Gabriel was alert and touched the ball first-time to break the deadlock at Gávea.

Things didn't change much in the second half. Despite the cold weather at Gávea, the game was lukewarm. And it remained that way until the 24th minute, when the referee awarded a penalty to Flamengo after a handball by the defender inside the area. Marx Lenin took the penalty with skill, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and extending Flamengo's lead. There was still time for Gabriel Pierini to score the third goal in the 39th minute, sealing another victory for Flamengo's U-20 team in 2019.
