Late in the afternoon of last Monday (7), the CBF held the draw for the first phase of the Brasileirão Sub-18. Flamengo was in group A and will face Cuiabá, Fluminense and Minas Brasília. The competition will take place between July 6th and 17th, in Sorocaba-SP. As in the last edition, 24 clubs will participate.
The format will be the same as the 2020 championship, which was held between January and March of this year due to the pandemic. First, the clubs will face off in a home-and-away format. The top eight teams will advance to the second phase, scheduled for the same location, with a new group division. After that, it will be a knockout phase, with home-and-away matches and home-field advantage.
Recently, Mais Querido signed six athletes for the category and played three friendlies: they beat CFZ 3-0, Vila Brasil 1-0 and the USA All-Stars combined 4-1. A standout in the matches, striker Mariana Fernandes, who has been part of the project since the beginning and is going to her third participation in the tournament - fourth if we count the Brazilian Under-16 -, spoke about the moment in the season.
"The team has been constantly evolving, and the improvement is visible. We've played a few games in preparation, and we're very confident. Our group includes teams we haven't faced yet, so we know the responsibility. We still have a month until the competition, and we'll continue working hard because we want to achieve our goal of putting Flamengo at the top," he emphasized.
