On Monday morning (25), the Noble Hall of the Gávea headquarters was the stage for another step towards realizing the great dream of the Rubro-Negra Nation! Directors and authorities met to sign the agreement to enable the construction of the Flamengo stadium in the Porto Maravilha area. The agreement of intentions provides for the preparation of a Bill by the Municipality, to establish a consortium operation using the transfer of the right to build, so that Flamengo obtains resources for the construction of its own stadium.

Present for Flamengo were President Rodolfo Landim, General Vice President Rodrigo Dunshee, Vice President of Assets Marcos Bodin, and Flamengo CEO Reinaldo Belotti, alongside Mayor Eduardo Paes, Rio's Secretary of Government Coordination Jorge Arraes, Rio's Municipal Secretary of Sports Guilherme Schleder, and Rio's Federal Deputy Pedro Paulo.

"This is earmarked money that the mayor will give us to help build our stadium. The city not only helped by expropriating the land and renegotiating the construction potential of that land for other areas, but is also helping us redirect the construction potential of Gávea. Doing a quick calculation, this assistance in removing the construction potential there and giving us the one here is an impact of approximately R$1 billion for us. Once again, I publicly thank the mayor, Pedro Paulo, Guilherme (Schleder), (Jorge) Arraes, Thiago (Dias, Executive Deputy Secretary of the SMDUE), everyone who worked on this project. Thank you very much. Everyone is fully committed, and all of us Flamengo fans should be very grateful for the city's gesture toward us. Obviously, this is very good for Flamengo, very good for Rio de Janeiro, but public figures don't always have this level of commitment, focus, and determination," thanked president Landim, who also spoke to the press about the possibilities of naming rights.

"What we are negotiating is much more than naming rights; it is participation in the realization of a dream of a quarter of the Brazilian population, the Red-Black Nation," he said.

Accompanying the president, Dunshee also expressed his gratitude and called on Bodin to present the project to those present.

"The president has already said everything, the matter is very well managed. I just want to express my gratitude to the mayor and everyone who made this project possible for Flamengo. Good for Flamengo, good for Rio de Janeiro. And before we sign the agreement, I ask Bodin to give a brief presentation of our stadium project," he said, to be followed by Bodin.

"We're demonstrating Flamengo's commitment to being integrated into the region and having contemporary architecture here. We're committed to doing the right thing, evaluating the surrounding area, already thinking about our permits, the means fans will use to get there, and our focus on technology and sustainability," said the director, who presented the required project firsthand to the partners last Friday (22). 

"We need to contextualize this moment and this important achievement for the city. Obviously, Flamengo has a strong connection with Maracanã, but Maracanã has a public dimension that prevents it from being just a club. Regardless of the economic gains, the entire structure, it has enormous symbolic value as an intangible asset of the city. This is the club that wins over and mobilizes the vast majority of Rio residents, as much as it pains me, as a Vasco fan, to say so. Today, with this act, we commit to giving Flamengo full capacity to exercise a right it already has. Gávea has construction potential, but the government doesn't allow Flamengo to build on its land. So, this right to build is being taken elsewhere. It's a joy for us, as mayor of the city, to allow Flamengo to consolidate its position, but God willing, always losing to Vasco (laughs). It's an honor to be with you!" concluded Eduardo Paes.
